Neusa Sauer is a true legend of Brazilian music. She was born in the sun drenched southern shores of Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil. Graced with an exquisite voice and a natural stage presence, she began singing at age 8 and at age 17 won a coveted prize at the Voz de Ouro.
Partnering with singing greats on the Bossa Nova scene, Neusa worked with Elis Regina and Breno Sauer, who later became her husband and together they toured extensively throughout Mexico, Japan and Canada.
Neusa released records with international acclaim such as Tudo Joia under the Pausa Record label.. Performing music by the likes of Tom Jobim, Baden Powell and Joao Bosco, her style is derived from Samba, Bossa, and Brazilian Jazz.

Pianist and bandleader Samuel del Real, “El Maestro del Buen Ritmo," was born in Barranquilla, Colombia. He was pianist of Dimension Latina and Trabuco Venezolano and participated in an array of recordings in Caracas, Venezuela.
In 1983 recorded his first album with his own band. His first hit “Ella No Baila Sola” became the theme song in every night club of Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Panama, USA among others countries.
Samuel moved to Chicago in 1985, where he formed his orchestra with members of different nationalities, giving a blended, pan-Latin sound to his music. Since then he has played many festivals, concerts, private events in Chicago, London, New York, Minneapolis, St Paul, Detroit, Indianapolis, Miami and more. “Piano Caliente”, “Piano Jamboree” and “Piano Navideno” are the most recent albums that include selections from his extensive Latin Jazz repertoire as well as fresh interpretations of Afro Cuban classics.

Violinist James Sanders, familiar to Sabor a Café patrons and Latin jazz fans everywhere for his sizzling Conjunto, also leads the Blue Violin Quartet, his swinging tribute to the role of the violin in jazz.
In 2012, James Sanders entered the studio with three hand-picked musicians and recorded his third CD as a leader: "Blue Violin: A Jazz Legacy". That record became the basis for a live band that has performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival, Jazz Showcase, Winter's Jazz Club, the Chicago Jazz String Summit and more.
Tunes from the canon (Miles Davis, Wes Montgomery, Bud Powell, Antonio Carlos Jobim) and the Great American Songbook (Jerome Kern, George Gershwin) combine for an entertaining and heartfelt night of classic jazz.
Joining James will be pianist Kevin O'Connell, bassist Marlene Rosenberg and drummer Ben Johnson.

Buenos Aires born singer Damian Rivero is the grandson of the great tango singer Edmudo Rivero. Guitarist Guillermo Paolisso, also born in the Argentine city, is the fourth generation of a musical family and trained at a prestigious Italian jazz academy.
They'll meet in Chicago at Sabor a Café for an intimate duo concert that will range from Argentine folklore and tango to jazz and points in between.

Join us for the fourth edition of out Peña Libre series when hosts Proyecto Sur (Nelson & Paola Sosa) welcome singer Luisa María and guitarist Guillermo Paolisso in a program inspired by the life of famed artist and Mexican icon Frida Kahlo.

Natives of Chile, Nelson and Paola Sosa, father and daughter, have been singing and performing in United States since 1997 as a duo. Nelson is professional musician and composer and singer since 1964. They arrived in America in 1983. Nelson has worked extensively with Chicago's bilingual and Spanish speaking communities to provide music, writing children books and providing study aids. Nelson and Paola perform with vitality and understanding to preserve and communicate their native Spanish language and Latin American music in festivals, schools, libraries and restaurants.

Singer Patricia Nuñez “La Tiranta” was born in Córdoba, Spain in 1987. Patricia inherited her passion for singing from her musical family background, particularly her mother. From an early age she started working with different musicians and artists from her city such as Angelin de Puente Genil, Rafael Trenas Jr., Álvaro Vizcaíno, Xavier de la Torre and others. Later on, she moved to Granada to study musical production and start her career in flamenco music.
La Tiranta has also taken part in the Ensemble Español tours in the Midwest and East coast of the U.S. In 2016, she opened the Chicago Flamenco Festival at the Instituto Cervantes singing for Raquel Heredia “La Repompilla”.
La Tiranta sings regularly at different venues throughout the Chicagoland area and Midwest. She is also part of the project, “Ruta De Los Bandoleros” in Alameda, Malaga. She has performed with Paco Fonta, Pol Vaquero, Carmela Greco ,Raquel Heredia, and family, among others.

Founded in 2001, Conjunto is violinist James Sanders’ long running project to unite his classical training and Dominican heritage with the freedom of jazz improvisation, all grounded in Afro-Cuban rhythms: rumba, son, danzón and more.
In Conjunto, jazz freedom, intricate instrumental virtuosity and propulsive dance rhythms find equal footing in a cohesive whole, making music for mind, body, and soul. They have performed at the Chicago Jazz Festival, Andy’s Jazz Club, the Jazz Showcase, the Chicago Latin Jazz Festival, the Velvet Lounge, the Evanston Ethnic Arts Festival, Katerina’s, Chicago SummerDance and many more. In 2010, Conjunto headlined at Millennium Park’s Jay Pritzker Pavilion for the ‘Made in Chicago: World Class Jazz’ series before an audience of nearly 10,000 people.
