Luciano Antonio was born into a musical family in rural Iretama, Parana, Brazil’s southern region. From this melodiously rich environment, he learned first how to sing with his mom and further developed his vocal abilities through his maternal grandparents, By age 14, he took the violão (acoustic guitar) as a self taught instrument, focusing his repertoire on Brazilian Folk and Bossa Nova (Brazilian Jazz). He began the study of classical guitar at the age of 17, attending several guitar symposiums, work shops and master classes under one of Brazil’s most respected professors, Henrique Pinto.
Luciano’s music journey next led him to the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) where he received a bachelor’s degree in music performance. While at UMKC full-time, he was invited to join Chicago Samba (a Chicago based Brazilian music group) and commuted weekly between Kansas City and Chicago to make ends meet. After successfully completing his education at UMKC, he relocated to Chicago where he has since established himself as a songwriter, singer, guitarist and bandleader in Chicago's best clubs and concert halls.
He has recorded and released two albums of original music, "Vida De Artista" and "Sem Palabras".

Guillermo Paolisso is a virtuoso guitarist from Buenos Aires, Argentina. The fourth generation of a musical family, he studied a wide variety of Latin music styles as well as jazz in Argentina and Italy from the young age of 6. He blends traditional Iberoamerican musical styles and jazz.
These include tango, milonga, candombe, bossa nova, choro, samba, waltz, marinera, salsa, bomba, and Latin jazz. The American Guild of Music Artists considers him an important musician representing Argentinian musical culture in the US. He is based in Chicago.

Anne Gil wrote her first song in 1997 and she has written over 50 Cumbias and Vallenatos. “Mi Vallenato' was her first single in 2009 and she followed up with an album of the same name in 2011. It included nine original tunes that speak about Valledupar, music, love and life, with a very innovative style, modern, folkloric and “sweetly” Vallenato. The basic tracks were recorded and arranged by her brother Andres Yair Gil and the production was finished with the assistance of producer and bass player extraordinaire Luis Angel “El papa” Pastor.
In 2014 she released the single “Hoy quiero que cantes”, produced by Pastor. and in 2016 the singles “En la distancia” and “Juguete de amor” were released under the production of Juan Carlos Rivas “El Chato”, with whom in September of 2017 her new album “Herencia” is launched. The work proposes a new sound for Vallenato music with a fusion of diverse rhythms and genres.
She won the Procuraduría General de la Nación Singer Contest in 2008, and the National Contest “Music, Camera, Action” in 2012. She also took the crown at the Nuskin Got Talent USA in 2014, Festival Francisco el Hombre, Riohacha, 2015. She performed for Consulate Of Colombia in Miami in 2018 and Colombia Independence Celebrations in Chicago, IL. and Portland OR.
As singer/composer, Anne Gil promotes the participation of women in male-dominated Vallenato folklore. She seeks to become an ambassador of the rich Colombian musical tradition, sharing her love and hope filled songs with the public.

Buenos Aires born Damian Rivero belongs to a large family of musicians, including his Grandfather Edmundo Rivero, one of the most popular tango singers of all time. With his first band C-Men, he played at the most popular underground venues and festivals in Argentina. His music blends rock with the soul of tango.
Now living in Chicago, Rivero composes original Latin alternative music for the Damian Rivero Quartet and is a master at tango and other Argentine folkloric music. He can often be heard around Chicago accompanying other Argentine musicians in concert.
For this solo acoustic show, he'll mix originals and classics in uniquely intimate fashion.

The Mexico City-born Córdova is steeped in traditional and popular Latin music ranging from Nuevo Flamenco to Mexican Folk. He was a founding member of the Grammy-nominated Sones de Mexico Ensemble.

Sabor a Café welcomes one of Chicago's premier singers, composers and bandleaders, José 'Papo' Santiago.
Papo Santiago started his musical journey in Ponce, Puerto Rico, the birthplace of some of the most celebrated musicians in Latin music history. Santiago pursued a degree in music at Universidad Interamericana, San German, Puerto Rico.
Before completing his studies, he was recruited to play baritone sax with "La Terrifica" by its bandleader Joe Rodriguez. "La Terrifica" spun off from "La Sonora Poncena" in the early 70's and paved the way for Santiago's incursion into the world of salsa. The band's international acclaim took Santiago to the demanding salsa public of Venezuela, Colombia, Peru and New York among others. After forging his musical reputation, he became a sought after musician, sharing the stage with upper brass of Afro-Caribbean music, including "Fania All-Stars", "La Sonora Poncena", "Ismael Miranda", "Marvin Santiago", Pete "El Conde" Rodriguez, Carlos "Cano" Estremera, Henry Fiol. Lalo Rodriguez, Eddie Santiago, and Nino Segarra.
His sonero influences are Ismael Rivera. Luigi Texidor, Marvin Santiago, Isaac Delgado and "El Tiburón" Morales. In his improvisations, he combines street-wise sense of humor with a unique approach to rhythm and swing. Santiago stands as an icon of the harmonious fusion of classic influences with the most innovative trends in tropical music.

For the past twenty years with four albums as a leader, several studio projects as a side man, and countless worldwide performances, saxophonist, vocalist and composer Juli Wood has established herself as a solid, swinging, lyrical and entertaining performer on Chicago’s music scene.
Juli is in the tradition of saxophonists who were also great vocalists; Cleanhead Vincent, Eddie Harris, and Louis Jordan. Never has that been more apparent than in “5 4 3 2 1 Juli Wood,” her latest recording and most ambitious project to date.

José Cornier, born of Puerto Rican and French descent, is no stranger to the age-old adage that it takes a whole lot of faith to move mountains. The Humboldt Park native picked up his first guitar at the age of 8 and is now able to play any guitar placed in front of him.
José Cornier is a man with a vision: Sharing his love through music. José has played at many major events throughout the Chicago area, across the country and overseas. He attended the Latin Grammys and the Latin Billboard Awards in San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2010. José was honored as "Someone You Should Know" by Harry Porterfield of CBS 2 and in 2008 performed for Chef Rick Bayless, composing a song called "One Plate at a Time" for his induction to the Chef’s Hall of Fame here in Chicago. José has also performed at a fundraiser for President Barack Obama.
He has released 3 CDs, "Esperanza", "En Mi Camino" and most recently "Just For The Love" on Chi-Sound Records.
His sound combines acoustic Spanish guitar artistry with lively Latin jazz rhythms in an irresistibly dancable groove.

Sabor a Café presents a Rumba Jam Session featuring some of Chicago's finest Latin and jazz musicians led by Melvis Santa and Ashedí.

2018 Grammy nominee Melvis Santa and her group Ashedí bring the powerful, ecstatic Afro Cuban tradition to new spaces. Melvis leads on piano and vocals while fronting a full percussion set of batá drums featuring Master percussionists Roman Diaz, Rafael Monteagudo and Anier Alonso.
Born in Havana, Melvis Santa has been well known in Cuba since she was fourteen years old and formed the vocal group Sexto Sentido. In 2010 Melvis spread her wings and appeared as one of the lead vocalists of Interactivo, a seminal fusion band in Cuba, recording and touring worldwide.
Based in New York since 2014, she continues to make a mark as a performer and educator teaching Afro-Cuban music and dance workshops at NYU, CUNY Graduate Center, Tulane University of New Orleans, YALE University, and others. Melvis has also worked with a who’s who of the jazz and Latin communities, from Ravi Coltrane to the Buena Vista Social Club.
